Roswell Moves 2019

Roswell Moves 2019

From Bike Roswell: Mark your calendars for Sunday, April 28, as Bike Roswell! and the City of Roswell will convert the pavement along Canton Street in historic downtown Roswell into a pedal-pedestrian party. Businesses and organizations have three ways to participate in this second annual “open streets” event, Roswell Moves!, and the online application is now available online through April 7. Festivities will begin at 8 a.m. that Sunday with the Bike Roswell! Mayor’s Ride to showcase the entire city.

It is the 16th year for the recreational bicycle ride. Roswell Moves! is an innovative experience that encourages people of all ages and abilities to explore the community by dancing, pedaling, rolling, strolling and even playing. Admission is free for attendees of Roswell Moves!. Activities will include live music on multiple stages provided by Atlanta Plays it Forward, sports demonstrations, health and wellness interactive displays, and the Historic Roswell Kiwanis Kids’ Bicycle Safety Rodeo. A Family Bike Parade will kick off activities at 11 a.m., rolling from Heart of Roswell Park to Woodstock Road and back. Activities will take place until 3 p.m. Roads used for Roswell Moves! will close to motorized vehicles from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 28. The sections of Canton Street which will be used include the south end of Canton Street from Webb Street and Elizabeth Way to Norcross Street; the north end of Canton Street from Norcross Street and Plum Street to Woodstock Road. Businesses located along the Canton Street corridor are invited to register as a Route Host. This event participant option permits a business to get involved beyond the storefront and sidewalk by engaging attendees with demonstrations and product promotions. Two other event participant options available and Event Sponsor. All Activity Partners must provide quality activities that align with the event mission to promote wellness, transportation options, and community engagement. The online application is available at (bikeroswell.com/roswellmoves/activitypartner/). “Open streets programs convert a street into a temporary park. The pavement becomes a car-free space for people of all ages to enjoy the urban space in a playful way, from physical action to personal inspiration,” said Nathan Sears, Chairman for Roswell Moves!

“The event was a huge success in 2018 and we are pleased to offer three different ways for businesses to get involved this year. Submitting an application does not guarantee entry as an event participant in Roswell Moves! Our review committee wants to ensure that we offer quality activities that fit with our mission of health, wellness and civic pride.” Official Sunday activities for Roswell Moves! begin at 8 a.m. from Roswell Area Park with the fully supported, recreational bicycle ride, the Bike Roswell! Mayor’s Ride. The Mayor’s Ride offers three ride options - 18, 42 and 64 miles. The 18-mile option returns with a flat route along the Chattahoochee River that eliminates the previous climbs in Martin’s Landing subdivision. All ride options provide pre-ride mechanical support, full stock rest stops, post-ride lunch and T-shirts for riders who register prior to April 15. Lunch is sponsored by Lucky's Burger and Brew and Red Hare Brewing Company. The Mayor’s Ride is the largest fundraiser of the year for Bike Roswell!, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization promoting safe cycling. Early registration is available online with a discounted fee of $35 per rider through March 31 (www.bikeroswell.com/rides-maps/mayorsride). All Bike Roswell! members receive an additional $10 discount through March 31 (log in as a member prior to registration to receive discount). Regular registration is $45 per rider in April, and $55 day-of event on April 28.
